Water Treatment Systems in Maryland & DC
How’s the water quality in your Maryland, Virginia or Washington, DC home? If you’re like many people in our area, it’s probably…ok – not great, but not terrible. Many people have pretty severe problems with hard water scale clogging pipes and damaging water heaters, and there’s usually no telling what’s actually IN the water, whether it comes from the city or you’re on a well. If you want to install a water treatment system, such as a water softener or a water filtration system, in your home, call James A. Wheat & Sons today!
Water softener systems
Like the name suggests, water softeners reduce the hardness of water. Of course, this in and of itself is a little confusing, because “hard water” sounds a lot like ice – this, obviously, is not the case. Water hardness refers to the presence of certain mineral ions, such as calcium and magnesium, in the water. Hard water leads to scale buildup on water fixtures and can coat heating elements in your water heater, leading to pretty severe efficiency loss. Hard water can also reduce the lathering ability of soap and leave a residue on your skin and hair after a shower (interestingly enough).
Water softeners remove these hardness ions and replace them with salt ions that are far less damaging. The softener then collects the hardness minerals in its conditioning tank and flushes them away.

We Can Help!
Water filtration systems
If you’re on well water you may not want to drink water straight from your taps. This is understandable – there’s often no telling what could end up in water in your well! Installing a water filtration system in your home provides a clean, inexpensive alternative to bottled water for drinking and improves the quality of all the rest of the water you use, from cooking to showering to just washing your hands. Unlike small, undersink water filters, water filtration systems are designed to clean up all the water that enters your home. They come with easily replaceable filters and are designed to last over 300,000 gallons – between 6 – 7 years or more of extra clean water!
If you’re concerned about the quality of your drinking or general use water, or if you think your pipes are in danger of being damaged by hard scale, don’t wait – call James A. Wheat & Sons! We can install a water treatment system such as a water softener or a water filtration system in your home to make sure your water quality is as good as it can be.
